School Orientation : General Information and Academic Administration

Our second day in Far Eastern University, we are introduced to the Far Eastern University High School which is still in the same location with FEU Manila.



SCHOOL PROFILE


Far Eastern University has a senior high school, it was established in 2016. Below are the Mission and Vission of FEU High School.


Mission

  • Far Eastern University High School provides quality education that prepares its graduates for the world of work, for college, and for life.

  • Its curriculum is student-centered, values-oriented, and competency-laden; its delivery methods technology-enabled, and its learning activities project-based.

Vission

  • FEU High School graduates flourish in college or at work and lead meaningful and rewarding lives.

  • They are critical thinkers, good communicators, and digitally literate lifelong learners; morally upright persons; and socially responsible citizens.

FEU has the core values, ie FEU which are stand for ; Fortitude, Excellence, Uprightness.

Fortitude

Moral courage and strength of character allows you Tamaraws to persevere and achieve more than is expected of you.

Excellence

A committment to perform to your fullest potential while thriving in a culture of excellence.

Uprightness

Development of morality and integrity is expected as we learn inside and outside the classroom. We stay true to our principles and live on high moral standards despite the many challenges that lay ahead.


Starting the first school orientation, we firstly met with the Executive Director of FEU High School, Ms. Maria Regina Corazon Sevilla Sibal, she told us many things about FEU and FEU High School. She explained that Far Eastern University has 6 branches ; FEU Manila as the main campus, FEU Tech, FEU Makati, FEU Cavite, FEU Diliman as the biggest campus, and FEU Alabang as the newest campus.

FEU High School divided into two locations, those are in FEU Manila and FEU Diliman. It offers four strands under Academic Tracks for SY 2018-2019, those are;

  1. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Strand;

  2. ABM (Accountancy, Bussiness, and Management) Strand;

  3. HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) Strand;

  4. General Academic Strand; and

  5. Sport Strand (availables only in FEU Diliman).

Based on the observations we did, I thought that even FEU High School has only been running for two years, but it’s already has the good programs and services as its mission to provide the better quality of education that prepares it graduates for the world of work, for college, and for life.

 

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SYSTEM

These are some Academic Services Departments which have the roles in supporting FEU High School to achieve its Mission and Vission ;

  • Academic Services

The Academic Services Department implements, promotes, and evaluates the holistic formation and well-being of the students, teachers, and staff through academic and non-academic services guided by the core values of Fortitude, Excellence, and Uprightness. This department is comprised of Homeroom Class, Guidance and Counselling, Library and Media Center, Health Services, Office of Student Activities, Student Discipline Office, Student Government, and Publications.

  • Discipline Office

There are two kinds of violations concerning by this office :

1) List of Minor Violations

- Uniform violation

- Smoking and drinking alcohol

- Unruly conduct during assemblies and school-related activities

- Uttering of vulgar words and use of offensive language

- Attendance concerns/ habitual tardiness

- Borrowing, switching, and/or lending of ID or lunch pass

- Using of gadgets during class hours

- Eating inside the classroom

- Violation of study period guidelines


2) List of Major Violations

- Disrespect and disobedience

- Assault, fighting, inflicting injury and harm to others, any form of hazing

- Vandalism

- Cutting or skipping classes, truancy

- Any form of act that may endanger the good name of the school

- Malversation of class fund, extortion and theft

- Any act or form of cheating, plagiarism of academic work

- Falsification of school’s official documents and forging or tampering of school records/documents.

- Giving false testimony during investigation

- Activating fire and emergency alarms, unruly conduct inside the elevator, improper use of school facilities

- Indecent act or public display of affection, immortality or sexual acts against others

- Bringing and using of pornographic materials inside the school premises

- Possession and/or using of dangerous weapon

- Possession, using and bringing of prohibited drugs

- Gross misconduct/ conduct of unbecoming

- Any form of gambling

- Membership in fraternity and sorority

- Violation of guidelines with regards to internet safety, cyber bullying, and social media ethics.

  • GOCARE

GOCARE availables from Monday – Friday on 7.00 am – 5.30 pm at 2nd Floor of the FEU-nursing Building, Rm.205. GOCARE is the abbreviation of Guidance Office for Counseling, Assessment, Research and Evaluation offers different programs and activities which aims to assist students to acquire life-long learning skills, make rightful decisions and develop and achieve his maximum potential to become successful in his chosen field of endeavor.

GOCARE services ; individual inventory, information, counselling, enhancement, research and evaluation, student appraisal, referral and follow-up, career placement, and consultation.

  • Library Media Center


LMC availables from Monday – Friday on 7.00 am – 5.00 pm at 2nd Floor of the FEU-nursing Building, Rm.206.

LMC services ; 1) readers’ services (fiction, filipiniana, circulation, reference, periodicals, research paper), 2) technical services (acquisitions, cataloging and classification, abstracting and indexing), 3) online resource services (World Book Online), 4) computer/internet services and printing services.

  • Student Activities

Office of student activities availables from Monday – Friday on 7.00 am – 5.00 pm at 6th Floor of the FEU-nursing Building, Rm.602.

It manages and develops different activities to enhance the skills and talents of students. OSA handles ; 1) MILES/CLUB (for Grade-11), student organization (for Grade-12), academic activities, alternative classes (SAILS); programs; and some extra-curricular activities.

  • Clinic

Satellite Clinic Health Services availables from Monday – Friday on 6.30 am – 5.30 pm at 2nd Floor of the FEU-nursing Building, Rm.208. Services offered ; first aid, vital signs taking, students annual medical examination, emergency treatment, nebulization for asthmatic patient, and ambulance transport for referral to tertiary hospital.

  • Publications

The Junior Advocate arms students with a voice that speaks for the masses. By submerging students in campus journalism, they will be able to formulate articles that delivers news, opinions and entertainment.

Service offered :

- the office was responsible for the timely release of school publication. Two newspaper editions and one literary folio a year.

- Publishing content online to reach a much wider audience and more accessible to the student body.

- Seminar-workshop for the editorial staff to harness their skills and talents in writing.

  • Student Government

SG serves as abactive and representative voice of the student body. It promotes unity among the administration, leaders and the student body within the school and then community that can develop the potentials of every student. Services offered ; welcome program, teacher’s week, handugan sa kapaskuhan, outreach program, and graduation ball.

 

TEACHING SYSTEM

FEU High School actually uses student-centered curriculum. But, since the learning hour of every subject just for about seventy five minutes, so in implementing the curriculum, it becomes teacher-centered. Teachers mostly use the direct learning model and also blended learning to fulfil their learning hour.

 

MATERIALS AND OTHER LEARNING SOURCES

FEU High School doesn’t use any textbook for students. Teachers just conduct learning using power point, module, and CANVAS to make teachers and students are easier to conduct the learning process, doing a test, uploading module, and many more outside of classroom.

 

MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION SYSTEM

The grading system in FEUHS divided into :

  1. Written task : assignments, quiz, short test, long test

  2. Performance task : projects, presentation

  3. Major exams : midterm, final test

 

CURRICULUM


FEU High School applies the K-12 curriculum. The K-12 program offers a decongested 12-years program that gives students sufficient time to master skills and absorb basic competencies. In K-12, there are some levels of basic education :

1) Kindergarten (mandatory preschool)

2) Grade school (for 6 years)

3) Junior High School (for 4 years)

4) Senior High School (for 2 years)


Senior high school (SHS) students take a core curriculum plus applied track and specialized subjects based on the track or discipline of their choice: academic, technical-vocational-livelihood (TVL), sports, and arts and design.

Among the tracks, only academic and TVL have strands or subcategories. The academic strands are accountancy, business and management (ABM); humanities and social sciences (HUMSS); science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); prebaccalaureate maritime; and general academic. The TVL strands are agrifishery, home economics, information and communications technology, industrial arts and TVL maritime.


There are at least 15 core curriculum or general subjects, which aim to advance learning in English, Filipino, humanities, mathematics, science, mass media and well-being. Applied track subjects, which are adapted to a particular track and strand, include English for academic and professional purposes; practical research (qualitative and quantitative); Filipino; empowerment technologies; entrepreneurship; and inquiries, investigations and immersion. A senior high student will take at least 33 subjects, each totaling 80 hours, divided into four semesters in two years. Students choose their track and strand after undergoing assessments like aptitude test, career assessment exam and career advocacy activities. The law states that beginning school year 2016-2017 all must go through Grades 11 and 12 to graduate from high school.

 

TEACHING PLAN


Teachers here in FEUHS do not use any lesson plan, they just use power point and module that already prepared from school.
